Literary analysis, while an interesting skill to have, has become outdated. People nowadays don't really need to analyse every single bit and piece of a text or a book, and it's not a talent that one will have the chance to use daily, unless it is a passion. I believe that Literary commentary or analysis should no longer be required as part of the high school graduation exam in Romania due to the little use it holds in one's future. nu ai voie sa argumebtezi in introducere
Firstly, once an individual is done with the exam, they'll no longer need to possess this skill. High-schoolers spend their 4 years learning all the books and analysing them until the last bit was accounted for, but after they pass with their exam, all the things they learned won't have any use later down their lives. Knowing that Ion by Liviu Rebreanu is a realistic, objective and modern novel is an information you only need to pass the exam, and once you are done with it, forgetting it won't affect your life in any way. Why do we have to force our students to learn something that they are eventually going to forget either way?
Secondly, the books in the curriculum are old-fashioned. All the books that have to be studied have been written around the 19th or 20th century, which hold having no relation to what today's literature is like. While teaching teens about the history and evolution of this art, the fact they don't get to study a book written recently can be a big turn-off for the young, aspiring student. If we are to keep literary analysis as a mandatory part of the graduation exam, the least we could do is let our high-schoolers learn about modern literature in hopes that it can interest them more.
In conclusion, literary analysis is a skill that one will most likely possess temporarily, has little relevance to the average teen are the leading causes of why I believe it should be no longer required as part of the high school graduation exam.
