Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty. What on Earth do these two guys have in common?
Well, first of all, they both have psychological and mental disorders. As we all know, in this series, Sherlock often consumes strong drugs, which badly affects both his physical and mental health, whereas Moriarty tends to behave like a maniac, like a psycho who you don't know what to wait for from. Moreover, both of them are geniuses, they both have highly-functioning minds and sometimes, they can even predict what the other is going to do. I find that literally fantastic!
However, there must always be some differences between the protagonist and the antagonist. Sherlock, like the primary Conan Doyle's hero, is pictured as a warm-hearted intellectual man with high moral standards, including his appreciation of the friendship with Dr. Watson, despite his mask of an indifferent person who thinks only about himself. Moriarty's character is far away from that, however. In the series, he's shown as a cunning and psychotic young man who tricks people( and sometimes Sherlock too) in unimaginable ways. And he doesn't even hide that! He doesn't have true friends, only allies whom he's always ready to betray if something in his plans goes wrong.
Even from the point of view of their appearances, they seem to be rather different. Sherlock Holmes, an English "gentleman" in his early 30s, with black curly hair, ice-blue eyes, who smiles so charmingly is definetely outstanding Moriarty, a man in his mid-30s, with sleeked back brown hair, dark brown evil eyes and whose behaviour is far from being a "gentleman-like" one.
To conclude, even though these two characters are totally opposed concerning their moral values and actions, they still have something in common- they're both "highly-functioning sociopaths" who absolutely love getting on people's nerves!
