In today’s world, abortion is becoming more and more common, and has been legalized in many countries all around the world. However, for a woman to get pregnant in the first place there must be someone to father the child, so that rises the question: Should the father have a say in whether the child gets aborted?

On the one hand, the child is as much the mother’s as it is the father’s. If the child were to be born, the father would have had as much of a say in the child’s life as the mother. So, it seems only logical that the father gets a say even before the child is born, especially if the mother plans on ending their life. Considering this, if he wants to get custody over the child, then the mother should keep the baby and go through with the pregnancy.

On the other hand, it is, ultimately the woman’s body. The woman is the one who gets pregnant and has to carry the child for nine months and then give birth to the baby. Considering this, and the fact that the father does not necessarily have to be there after the initial act for the child to be born, then it could be argued that it is, ultimately, the woman’s choice. So, if she decides that she doesn’t want to go through with the pregnancy, then it is her choice and the father should not have a say in this.

In conclusion, despite the fact that the child is as much the father’s as it is the mother’s, it could be easily argued that since the child isn’t born yet it is only the mother who has a say in whether she wants to go through with the pregnancy or not.
