Internet has become an essential part in many people's lives in recent times, due to its various ways in which it can be used. But this begs the question, can we live without internet? Should the internet become a basic human right?
On the one hand, it is undeniable how useful the internet can be. Not only does it host an immense amount of information that can be found in just a few clicks, but it's also a way to contact friends and family through the use of social media. The fact that one can talk with someone on the other side of the planet without any problems is an amazing feat and proves that humanity has evolved a lot. Additionally, people are using the internet more and more, so much so that it's becoming a basic need. Human rights generally include the most essential human needs, and so this results that the internet could become a human right in the future.
On the other hand, we have lived thousands of years without it. Before the 21st century, humanity has gone through history just fine without any of the features that the internet brings. Information was available through books and shcools/colleges and means of communication were covered by the existence of the telephone. On another idea, the ever rising usage of the internet could make our lives worse. If we let the internet become a basic human right that almost anyone can access, that can make the internet consume people's lives as they can't get off of it, causing a wide-spread addiction issue that is already present on a smaller scale.
In conclusion, the internet is integral to most people's lives and it helps solve many day to day problems, but the outcome of making it a basic human right is unexpectable as it can always cause more issues than it solves.
